i am going to be posting reviews of hotels from all over the world. The first hotel is going to be the Grand Wailea Waldorf Astoria in Maui.
My experience: stayed August 2016 - I travelled with my wife and our baby boy. We arrived at the hotel midday after a very pleasant drive from the Airport. The hotel allowed us to check in early and upgraded our room from Garden view to Sea view. We got to the room and we're pleasantly surprised at how big and comfortable it was. The views were absolutely stunning. We had a nice sized balcony. Our luggage arrived after about 10 minutes. We decided to have a little tour round the resort to get used to where everything is. We then decided to have a little afternoon nap. In the evening we met up with some friends also staying there and had dinner in the restaurant by the adult pool. Great if you have kids as they eat free. The food was good and a little pricy.
After a good ode nights sleep we chose to have breakfast in the buffet. It was great value at $24 each and had everything to keep you full for hours. We wanted to go and check out the beach, but by the time we got there all the free chairs and umbrellas were taken. We ended up paying $30 for renting out comfortable chairs and umbrella. We tried to go by the pool but there were no shaded parts left, so we decided the next day we would que up before breakfast to get seats. The next day we got up early and managed to reserve seats in the shade. It's disappointing that the whole point of going to a place like this is to relax, and to get up extra early to reserve seats reminds me of German and British tourists in Spain. The pools are great and with water slides, you can have fun all day. It's not easy traveling with a baby, especially with all the flights, but we would definitely come back here when he is older. We spent about $250 per day on food and drink. And the room cost $550 per night including taxes.
Review - The Grand Wailea, Waldorf Astoria Maui
Overall Rating 8/10
General overview - a truly beautiful hotel in a stunning location. Well appointed rooms with huge well designed bathrooms. With prices ranging from $400 - $700 per night in a garden room, and with no meals included, it is easy to overspend here. Facilities include 9 pools as well as water slides and many other water sports to do in the sea. There is a great choice for food and drink in the many restaurants around the resort.
Comfort - 7/10
When you are spending $600 per night, you do expect to relax and take it easy. Unfortunately if you are not up early standing in a cue for the pool to get some seats with shade, you are going to miss out. Unless that is you want to spend an extra $600 - $1500 paying for a cabana. It is the same with chairs and umbrellas on the beach. I found this to be so annoying and it did take away from the relaxation of the whole stay. The beds in the rooms are very comfortable and easy to just laze the hours away.
Food and Drink - 8/10
Breakfast was delightful and good value. The choices included omelet stations, waffles, pancakes, pastries, Tropical and regular fruits, yogurts, breads, basically something for everyone. There are another 4 restaurants around the resort which give you a choice of casual dining or something more special. Quality is good and prices are fairly high.
Location - 10/10
Nestled on Wailea beach with Palm trees everywhere this is a true paradise that will stay in your memories for many years to come. The views from the rooms are beautiful, and will make you sad you ever have to leave.
Facilities 8/10
The resort has a kids club for a high fee, and has 9 pools, but not enough shaded area. It has a great and very expensive spa. The beach is beautiful and has many activities available to rent. In the evening there is entertainment in the lobby area and outside. 24hr room service is also available. There is even a Chapel if you want to get married.
